John Richmond, MD
Board Member, President
Dr. Richmond is a recently retired orthopedic surgeon and considered to be one of the pioneers of modern arthroscopy in the U.S. He was the Head Team Physician for Tufts University Athletics for 25 years, president of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), president of the Eastern Orthopedic Association (EOA), and was a founding member of Boston Sports and Shoulder Center. He has also received numerous awards including the O’Donaghue Sports injury Research Award (1995) and the Cabaud Memorial Basic Science Research Award (2007). Although Dr. Richmond is no longer actively seeing patients, he remains an active researcher and consultant for Boston Sports and Shoulder Center. He was selected to be the President of the BSSC Research Foundation because of his incredibly impressive research and education background. He has published over 70 articles, has received numerous teaching and research awards, has been a reviewer and/or editor for 8 different journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine.

Thomas Wuerz, MD
Board Member, Vice President
Dr. Wuerz is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a specialized focus on hip arthroscopic surgery, an area where he has established himself as a leading expert. His practice, based out of New England Baptist Hospital and various outpatient surgery centers, emphasizes the treatment of hip conditions with cutting-edge arthroscopic techniques. Originating from a strong academic background, Dr. Wuerz completed his medical degree at Eberhard-Karls-University of Tuebingen in Germany, followed by a residency that spanned the Inselspital in Berne, Switzerland, and the Cleveland Clinic. His advanced fellowship at Rush University Medical Center further solidified his expertise in orthopedic surgery. Additionally, he was awarded a prestigious traveling fellowship from the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy/The Hip Preservation Society, allowing him to further advance his training, knowledge and skills at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, and at the Schulthess Klinik in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Wuerz is particularly renowned for his proficiency in performing capsular closures, plications, and labral reconstructions during hip arthroscopic procedures. Kai Mithoefer, MD
Board Member, Treasurer
Dr. Mithoefer is double board certified in both Orthopedic surgery and Orthopedic sports medicine and specializes in state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgery of the knee and shoulder. He has more than 15 years of clinical expertise and is an internationally recognized specialist for sports medicine, joint preservation and regenerative orthopedics. After completing medical school at Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany, Dr. Mithoefer received his residency training in Orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at Harvard and the prestigious Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Dr. Mithoefer has extensive experience caring for athletes at all levels including as team physician of the New England Revolution, U.S. National Soccer Team, World Team Tennis, U.S. Davis Cup Team, and U.S. Open Tennis tournament, and has served as Assistant Medical Director for Major League Soccer (MLS). Having played sports at the elite and recreational level, he understands the athlete's mindset and practices with the primary goal of returning his patients safely and rapidly back to activity. Dr. Mithoefer serves as an assistant professor of Orthopedics at Tufts University's School of Medicine and New England Baptist Hospital. Jacob Kirsch, MD
Board Member, Secretary
Dr. Kirsch is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in treating all shoulder conditions through both arthroscopic (minimally invasive) and open techniques. His expertise includes shoulder replacement, rotator cuff surgery, and shoulder instability. He also performs unique complex procedures for failed rotator cuff surgery including tendon transfers, as well as conditions of the shoulder with bone loss and failed prior surgery. His practice is based at the New England Baptist Hospital and local outpatient surgery centers, where he employs the latest surgical advancements to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Dr. Kirsch’s academic foundation commenced at The George Washington University School of Medicine, followed by his residency at the University of Michigan. There, he served as a team physician for the men’s basketball team, blending his passion for sports and orthopedic care. He further honed his expertise during a Shoulder and Elbow fellowship at the renowned Rothman Institute and received advanced international training in shoulder surgery in Lyon, France. Suzanne Miller, MD
Board Member, Assistant Secretary
Dr. Miller is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon, recognized for her expertise in treating shoulder, knee, and hamstring conditions through arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures. She practices at New England Baptist Hospital and various local outpatient surgery centers, providing her patients with advanced, patient-focused care. Dr. Miller's medical education and residency were completed at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, laying a solid foundation for her specialization, which was further developed during her sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. In her role as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, Dr. Miller actively contributes to the education and training of the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. She is also active in teaching fellows at New England Baptist Hospital. Dr. Miller's academic contributions extend to numerous peer-reviewed publications, reflecting her ongoing involvement in research and her commitment to advancing the field of orthopedic surgery. She also serves as the team physician for the United States Ski and Snowboard teams. Morgan Herman
Board Member
Morgan Herman is Executive Vice President, Development for Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. She has more than 20 years of experience, having served in leadership roles at New England Baptist Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. As EVP, she leads a comprehensive Development program to significantly increase philanthropy for the organization. To date, CureAlz has supported over $100 million of grants with the highest probability of preventing, slowing, or reversing Alzheimer’s disease. Morgan and her team are committed to building upon that legacy with the ultimate goal of eradicating this disease. Morgan earned her BA in English from Middlebury College and an MBA from Simmons College.

David Passafaro
Board Member
David Passafaro is president of New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH), where he is responsible for leading the Baptist into the Beth Israel Lahey Health System and spearheading the effort to grow the brand into new markets. Previously, he served as senior vice president of external affairs overseeing the offices of Community and Government Relations, Philanthropy, Real Estate and Construction. David has extensive government and political experience, serving as Chief of Staff for the Office of Mayor Thomas M. Menino, and President of Boston 2004 Inc., a single purpose, not-for-profit entity, charged to represent the City in staging the Democratic National Convention. In the early 1980’s, he served in Washington D.C. working for the U.S. Senate and in the early 1990’s as a lobbyist in Washington D.C. and Boston with the firm McDermott/O’Neil & Associates. Prior to joining NEBH, David served as vice president for business development at Suffolk Construction Company where he was responsible for business development and client relationships for clients in the commercial, hospital, healthcare and higher education sectors in the Northeast. He also served as Vice President for Business Development at William A. Berry & Son Construction and Managing Director for Real Estate at Cambridge Associates Holdings Company. Previously, David served on several boards and commissions, including: Boston Medical Center, Board of Trustees, Finance Chairman; Chairman of Boston Medical Center Insurance Co., LTD and GMPCI, LTD, both captive insurance companies; Zoo New England Board of Directors; and City of Boston Rent Equity Board. David holds a BA in Political Science from Marquette University, 1976, and a MA in International Affairs and Foreign Policy from Georgetown University, 1979.

Andrew Jawa, MD

Dr. Jawa is a Board-certified orthopedic Surgeon, with a specialized focus on total shoulder replacement, including both reverse and anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty surgery. His clinical practice is based at New England Baptist Hospital and a local outpatient surgery center, where he is renowned for his expertise and innovation in shoulder arthroplasty, earning international recognition in the field. Dr. Jawa's academic foundation was established at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, followed by a residency at Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency. He further specialized through fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital, focusing on Hand and Microsurgery and Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, respectively. He is the chief of shoulder arthroplasty at New England Baptist Hospital and the head of the shoulder section of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society. His affiliation as an associate professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, along with faculty positions in the Harvard Shoulder Fellowship Program, the New England Baptist Sports Fellowship, and the Tufts Orthopedic Residency programs, reflect his dedication to education and mentorship. Dr. Jawa's scholarly contributions include over 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is a sought-after speaker at national conferences and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, further evidencing his commitment to the dissemination of knowledge and best practices in shoulder and elbow surgery. An active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES) and the Association of Clinical Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons (ACESS), Dr. Jawa also leads the Complications of RSA Research group within ASES, focusing on identifying the causes of major complications following reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).

Brian McKeon, MD

Dr. McKeon is a renowned Board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a focused expertise in minimally invasive surgery for the knee and shoulder, including unicompartmental replacements. His practice is based at New England Baptist Hospital, along with several local outpatient surgery centers. Dr. McKeon’s academic foundation was established at Georgetown University School of Medicine, followed by an integrated residency program at the University of Connecticut, and culminating in a fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. McKeon holds the position of Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. His contributions to the field extend beyond patient care. Notably, he served as the former Chief Medical Officer and Head Team Physician for the Boston Celtics. Currently, he leads as the practice manager of the Boston Bone and Joint Institute. Dr. McKeon’s commitment to the advancement of orthopedic surgery is also evident in his active participation in numerous academic societies, such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). Jonathan Shaker

Jon Shaker is the Executive Director of Boston Sports & Shoulder Center. He is responsible for overseeing all administrative and business functions, as well as establishing the practice’s strategic direction. Prior to this role, Jon spent 9 years at New England Baptist Hospital, most recently as the Executive Director of Surgical Business Operations & Patient Access. His career in healthcare began working as an orderly in the OR at Baystate Medical Center during college breaks. Since then, he has held multiple roles of progressing responsibility in different healthcare settings. Jon is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt who holds a Master of Health Systems Administration from Georgetown University. In 2020, he completed the 10 month Managing Health Care Delivery at Harvard Business School.

Greg DeConciliis, PA-C, CASC

Greg DeConciliis began his career as a Physician Assistant in Orthopedics in 1999 at New England Baptist Hospital. In May of 2004, he left the Hospital to start-up Boston Out-Patient Surgical Suites in Waltham, MA, an Orthopedic and Pain Management ASC. BOSS, as the Center is known, averages around 450 cases per month, and consistently achieves monthly profit margins over 50%. Greg also works with an additional multi-specialty ASC in Norwood, MA. Greg is also President of the Massachusetts Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Greg has been named one of the top Administrators to Know numerous times in Becker’s ASC Review; has authored numerous articles for the outpatient surgery industry, speaks nationally, and he continues to be active as a Physician Assistant, still scrubbing in on complex cases when needed.

Mike Cataldo

Mr. Cataldo is a “serial entrepreneur” recently retired as founder and CEO of Convergent Dental, developers of the Solea dental laser. Solea is the first CO2 dental laser to enable dentists to deliver needle-free, drill free, pain free patient experiences for everything from fillings to gum surgeries. Solea also offers non-surgical snoring relief and cavity prevention that is six times more effective than conventional fluoride treatments. Prior to Convergent Dental, Mr. Cataldo served as CEO of Cambridge Semantics, a Boston–based technology start-up focused on delivering the first ever development platform and toolkit based on the W3C’s semantic technology standards. Before that Mr. Cataldo spent seven years as a private investor, management consultant and Venture Partner at Long River Ventures, focused early stage companies. In these roles, he applied his experience as a start-up founder and CEO to develop business models and execution plans. In 1997, Mr. Cataldo founded MediVation, Inc., which developed the first patient portal for structured communications between doctors and their patients over the Internet. Having obtained a patent for automated communications of this sort and established MediVation as the market leader, Mr. Cataldo sold the company to McKesson Corporation in 2000. Prior to founding MediVation, Mr. Cataldo served as the General Manager of Optika Imaging’s healthcare division. Mr. Cataldo came to Optika having served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for STC Corporation whose DataGate product became the de facto standard for healthcare integration technology during his tenure there. In his early career, Mr. Cataldo held various management, marketing and sales positions at IBAX Healthcare Systems, Shared Medical Systems and Cable and Wireless. Mr. Cataldo graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Economics in 1983.
